![]() Of course, zero alcohol content is good for all the kids drinking it throughout Puerto Rico and other parts of the Caribbean. While it may be brewed from the finest barley and hops, Malta drink is, unfortunately, a non-alcoholic malt. That’s less than Coke, Sprite and energy drinks like this one, but the thickness makes it seem much sweeter, and much more filling. Malta India is syrupy and ultra-sweet, packing 21g of sugar per each 12oz bottle. If you like your soft drinks light and refreshing, then keep walking. Don’t worry about your eyes light will not pass through. It’s a super-thick and unbelievably dark caramel color. The first time I poured one of these for my wife, she said it looked like motor oil. This malt beverage has a strong and very distinctive aroma that’s heavy and very sweet, like a beer in mid-production, which, in fact, is what a malt soft drink is. Of course, I don’t think it smells like some old laundry, but it doesn’t smell like roses either. Here are four reasons why you might be inclined to go with “them”… What does Malta drink smell like? Regardless, I loved it then and I still love it now!īut, the real question is will you love it, or even give it a try? Next time you find yourself stopping off at some convenience store somewhere in the Caribbean, will you go with my gut and pick up a bottle, or will you follow my wife’s advice, and that of most every other soda reviewer anywhere? Partly because I was exposed to the Malta India commercials on Puerto Rican television. Maybe I’m crazy, but I grew up with this stuff. Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion ( especially my wife!), but I couldn’t disagree more about Malta India. If she were writing this review, it would be one word long. Just the sight of a six pack of Malta India in our fridge makes her shudder to this day. Of all the West Indian food and drink products I’ve introduced to my wife over the years, I’m pretty sure this is the only one she actually spit out. Buy and give it a try.Unlike Ting soda, Lemon Lime and Bitters, Country Club Soda, Goombay Punch, and just about every other soda we’ve told you about before, this bad boy from Mayaguez, Puerto Rico is decidedly NOT for everyone. Never tasted a Ting? Then time for a little adventure. Tasted a Ting recently? Why not take a trip down memory lane, as I did, and treat yourself to a cool Ting. The wonderful flavour of a grapefruit is like paradise as is expressed by its Latin name, Citrus paradisi. Grapefruits usually range in diameter from four to six inches and include varieties that have seeds or are seedless and that are pink or white. Grapefruit is an excellent source of vitamin C, a vitamin that helps to support the immune system. Although available throughout the year, grapefruits are in season and at their best from winter through early spring. Grapefruit has a juiciness that rivals the ever popular orange and sparkles with many of the same health promoting benefits. Ting contains a small amount of sediment consisting of grapefruit juice pulp. Flavoured with Caribbean grapefruit juice concentrate, it is both tart and sweet. Ting is a carbonated grapefruit beverage popular in the Caribbean. Ting sales soared over the next two year. By 1999 D&G sold its soda pop plant to the Pepsi Cola (Jamaica) Bottling Company to concentrate on its brewing business. Ting and Old Jamaica Ginger Beer, another naturally based beverage, were successfully introduced to the United Kingdom in 1988. Made locally with Jamaican sourced grapefruit, Ting was soon being exported to more than 20 other countries, beginning with Barbados. Ting, a Grapefruit Crush soft drink, was launched by D&G in 1976. I liked the D&G beverages with my favourite by a narrow margin being Cream Soda. D&G’s flagship product was Red Strip Beer and they were designated the Jamaican bottler for Pepsi Cola, Heineken, Mackeson and other renown brands. I remember growing up in Jamaica with Desnoes and Geddes (D&G) the main brewer and beverage producer. The name Ting is the Jamaican dialect for “thing”.
